Advocates for animals urges scottish parliament to introduce full ban on the snaring of animals

New Scottish Government environment Bill misses opportunity to ban cruel snares

Scotland’s new environment Bill has missed the opportunity to ban snares and could do much more to improve wild animal welfare according to leading animal protection charity Advocates for Animals. The Bill updates legislation on a range of issues including deer management, game laws, introduced species and snaring.

Public urged to seek more modern entertainment as animal circus returns to Edinburgh

Advocates for Animals is urging compassionate people to enjoy performances by humans in circuses, rather than outdated animal acts. The animal protection organisation’s call comes in advance of the Bobby Roberts Super Circus performing at The Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston, from 7-14 June. This circus features an elderly, arthritic elephant, Anne, alongside horses, dogs and a camel.

Animal welfare charity seeks daring firewalkers

Edinburgh-based animal welfare charity Advocates for Animals is on the lookout for brave volunteers to hotfoot it to the Three Sisters on 8th June and take part in their first ever fundraising firewalk.

The charity, which was established in Edinburgh in 1911 and has played a part in shaping some of Scotland’s most significant animal welfare laws, is hosting the sizzling event at the Three Sisters courtyard in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town this summer, and is looking for 30 intrepid animal lovers to take up the challenge.

Giant animals welcome Scottish Labour delegates to Glasgow Party Conference

Giant furry ‘animals’ will be in Glasgow city centre in a bid to bolster Scottish Labour support for a ban on snares in Scotland. A 6-foot fox and a hare will meet politicians and welcome delegates to their annual Party Conference at Glasgow’s Science Centre this weekend (Saturday 27 March) while handing out information leaflets.

Giant animals welcome Scottish Lib Dem delegates to Perth Party Conference

20,000 emails to MSPs urging support for seal breeding season amendment

Tomorrow the Scottish Parliament will have a final debate on the Marine (Scotland) Bill.  In just 10 days since Advocates for Animals contacted its supporters over 20,000 emails have been sent to MSPs asking them to support Robin Harper MSP’s amendment to ban the shooting of seals.

The Scottish Government Environment Minister Roseanna Cunningham MSP will today (Tuesday) be called before the Scottish Parliament Public Petitions Committee to answer questions on the Government’s policy on snaring.
