Nutkins Calls For Seal Breeding Season Shooting Ban

Grey seal pupTV naturalist Terry Nutkins has supported our campaign to LOOK OUT for SEALS and has written to the Scottish Parliament calling for a ban on shooting seals during their breeding seasons.

With just days to go before the Environment & Rural Affairs Committee meets to discuss amendments to the Marine (Scotland) Bill it is more important than ever that MSPs take action to LOOK OUT for SEALS.

In his letter Terry says: “Unless the Bill is amended it could allow licences to be granted for the killing of heavily pregnant and lactating female seals. The dependent pups of lactating females, if orphaned, are likely to be left to starve slowly to death. This is not an acceptable way for a compassionate society to treat any animals.

I believe that the Scottish Parliament has a unique opportunity to ensure that the Marine (Scotland) Bill brings an end to the inhumane practice of killing of seals during their breeding seasons, once and for all. I urge you to seize this opportunity."
